The Northern California segment of the NCM 99 Caravan to Bowling Green, Kentucky started from Tracy Chevrolet, in Tracy, California. MuttVette was the oldest Vette joining the caravan here. Many folks were surprised that we'd be driving such an old Corvette all the way. A fellow Team ZR-1 teammate heard one person saying I was optimistic in even attempting the trip. There was one Midyear Vette with us at the start, but being a 427 with a Powerglide, I doubt it even followed us to Roseville.

For the start, we had the Mayor of Tracy, Dan Bilbrey starting the caravan. Local police shut down the road to Interstate 205, and the CHP shut down Interstate 205 for us, allowing a nice, smooth start to the Caravan. From Tracy we went to John L. Sullivan Chevrolet in Roseville, CA. In Roseville, we had a BBQ, entertainment, and a raffle. A local radio station had a wheel going, and I won Dawn a free manicure. While we were doing this, one of the radio people said there was a grey 1953 Corvette out there. I guess people see so few solid axle vettes that they can't tell a 53 from a 61.

From Roseville, we headed up to Donner Summit for a photo shoot. Unfortunately, we didn't get the digital camera out early enough. Back onto I80, and on to Reno.

In Reno we made the customary drive under the arch, with a film crew recording the event.

Off to our left is fellow Team ZR-1 teammates Brett and Lexie Hooker in their ZR-1 that made it's Open Road Racing debut at the Pony Express II two weeks ago.

After the trip up Virginia street, it was off to the A & W for free rootbeer floats provided by Reno Corvettes. They brought out a 58 and 62 Corvette, along with several midyears. I don't think I'll be seeing any of those cars tomorrow when we leave for Salt Lake City.
